Frequently asked questions

What BetLets is, what it isn't, and the honest version of every common sports-betting question we get.

Does BetLets sell picks or predictions?

No. BetLets is an education and reference platform. We do not sell, distribute, or recommend any specific wagers. Every page is designed to teach the math behind sports markets so you can make your own decisions.

Are the calculators free?

Yes. All ten calculators run entirely in your browser. There are no accounts, no paywalls, and no tracking - close the tab and your inputs disappear with it.

Is BetLets affiliated with any sportsbook?

No. We have zero affiliate relationships with sportsbooks, betting apps, or pick-selling services. We do not earn commissions from referrals or signups.

Where does the data in the Analytics Lab come from?

The datasets in the Analytics Lab are illustrative - engineered to demonstrate concepts like closing line value, variance, and market hold accurately, but not tied to any specific season, league, or sportsbook.

Can I beat the sportsbooks long term?

A small minority of bettors are long-term profitable, almost always by combining rigorous probability work, disciplined bankroll management, and access to multiple books. Most bettors lose. The honest framing is: assume you will lose, and only stake money you can afford to lose entirely.

What is expected value (EV) and why does it matter?

Expected value is the average outcome of a bet across thousands of repetitions. A positive EV means the bet would profit on average if your probability estimate is accurate. EV is the only framework that distinguishes a good bet from a lucky win.

How much of my bankroll should I bet on a single play?

Most disciplined bettors stake 1–3% of their bankroll per bet. Anything more turns short losing streaks into ruin events. The Kelly Criterion is a mathematical maximum - most pros stake a quarter or half of it to reduce variance.

What is closing line value (CLV)?

Closing line value is the difference between the price you bet and the final price the market closed at. Consistent positive CLV is the strongest single indicator that your process is genuinely beating the market.

I'm not in the US - can I still use BetLets?

Yes. The educational content and tools are useful in any jurisdiction. However, the responsible-gambling resources we link to (such as 1-800-GAMBLER) are US-based; if you're outside the US, please use your country's equivalent support service.

What should I do if gambling is causing me harm?

Stop betting and reach out for support. In the US, call 1-800-GAMBLER (free, confidential, 24/7) or visit ncpgambling.org. Internationally, search 'gambling helpline' along with your country's name. Gambling addiction is a recognized public-health issue and recovery is possible.

If something here surprised you

That's the point. The sports-betting industry profits from confusion. BetLets exists to put the math back in your hands.
